Hart Leads Brewers Past Cubs, 8-7 In 13 Innings
" MILWAUKEE (AP) — John Axford’s saves streak was over and he hurried out of the ballpark to be with his pregnant wife.

But not before leaving a quick note for reporters on his chair.

Axford’s wife, Nicole, went into labor Friday night, so the Brewers closer couldn’t stick around to talk about a ninth-inning flop that ended his string of 49 straight saves

“I put my wife into contractions with my performance tonight,” Axford’s handwritten memo read after Milwaukee’s 8-7 victory over the Chicago Cubs in 13 innings. “The luck I’ve had in the past didn’t show up tonight. All I can do is begin another streak and keep my head up.”

And he signed it: “Love, Ax.”

The Brewers overcame the rare blown save by Axford when Corey Hart’s RBI single in the 13th won it. In a 5-hour game filled with clutch plays, Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke couldn’t recall everything Hart did.

“He looked good,” Roenicke said. “A lot of good at-bats. I can’t remember all of them.”

Except for that last one, of course.

With the bases loaded and no outs, Hart sent Lendy Castillo’s first pitch back up the middle to end the game after 5 hours, 4 minutes "
